The Music Of You

Lower Cape News editorial staff

Have you ever fallen in love with a song? Berklee College of Music's Susan Rogers shares how and why. Rogers, a self-described "midwife of records," produced music for Crosby Stills and Nash and served as the sound engineer for Prince. She was part of the on-going arts and entertainment lecture series at the Performing Arts Center in Brewster.

"The music you love best is actually saying something about who you are. What you want, what you fear, what you'd like to be better at."

Susan Rogers,
Professor of Psychoacoustics

Who is Susan Rogers?

The love we feel for certain songs is a very real feeling. There are components in them that speak to us in ways that reveals things about us. Susan Rogers, Professor of Psychoacoustics at Berklee College of Music, has studied how our brains react to music. At 25 she produced records for Crosby, Stills and Nash. She also spent five years as Prince's sound engineer. Rogers says our taste in music begins to form in our infancy and starts creating a sort of soundtrack of your life.

Where is the Performing Arts Center?

Susan Rogers visited the brand new Performing Arts Center in Brewster as a guest speaker for their February 10 episode of the Arts and Entertainment Lecture Series. The series is an ongoing project organized by Program Coordinator Paul Tingley. He wants the audience to have learned things they've never known before when they leave the auditorium.
