Orleans added a cannabiz to its commercial mix when Seaside Cannabis on Lots Way opened its doors in late December.

"I grew up here in Orleans, I'm a 13th generation Cape Codder, my family owned a business here for 50 years..."

— Spencer Knowles
COO, Seaside Cannabis Company

What new cannabiz opened in Orleans?

Seaside Cannabis Co. opened its doors to the public during a two-day grand opening event on Dec. 22 and 23, 2023. The new recreational dispensary brings Orleans into the "cannabiz" business and says it wants to engage with the community and promote the therapeutic benefits of cannabis, according to COO Spencer Knowles. The opening represents Orlean's first license and was several years in the making.

What is the connection to Orleans?

Knowles has a long connection with both Orleans and cannabis. He is an Orleans native and a 13th generation Cape Codder whose family owned Orleans business for decades. He was also arrested for cannabis use at 18 in Orleans, and says the community service requirement that came out of that also helped direct him on a path to college and ultimately business. He says Seaside Cannabis respects the town and the licensing process that helped shape the store, and wants the company to become a valued part of the business community,

What will the store offer?

The store holds a recreational cannabis license from the town, but it also brings a big focus on therapeutics according to Spencer. He noted that one misconception people have is that recreational stores can't provide therapeutic options, while the reality is that any cannabis store can curate an array of products to address issues like sleep, relaxation, and pain management and he sees that as a significant component of Seaside.
