What is the Ruck4HIT run?
02 May 2025 - CAPE COD, MA - Fifteen towns, 200 miles, 20 teams and 250 participants - that's what it took to pull off the tenth running of the R4H annual spring run. The event raised more than $300,000 for military support organization Heroes in Transition, a nonprofit that provides services for military personnel and their families.
The first Ruck4HIT run ran from Ground Zero in New York to Cape Cod, and that event sparked a journey that has continue to grow every year since.
What was different this year?
This year, the run - which features participants wearing rucksacks in a nod to training with military rucksacks - incorporated a longer route that started and finished in Falmouth at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds. It passed through every Cape Cod town along the way.
The 250 runners also faced an array of new challenges including climbing the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown and the Chatham Lighthouse. This year teams literally came from around the country, and included many fire and police departments.
What is Heroes in Transition?
The nonprofit Hero3s in Transition was formed in honor of Capt. Eric Jones, who lost his life serving in the Marine Corps in Afghanistan in 2009. His parents wanted to honor his memory with concrete action. Today is offers 15 different programs for military couples, families, spouses, and veterans.
